Hello, my name is Irma

Irma for Speak your REAL.jpeg

 and I’m a Life Coach

TL;DR Version: I have a background in psychology and social work, with an emphasis on individual and group therapy with women, children and families. I’m a raiser of children and cats (not so much plants), a writer of unrhymed poetry, and a slow and steady runner. I use various research-based techniques, to help people navigate transitions and find solutions to their life problems that are aligned with values. I am passionate about helping clients achieve a joy-filled life.

We don’t have to be similar to be able to work together but I’m telling you about myself here so we can just focus on YOU at our first meeting.

Education:

I have my masters in Social Work from Smith College School of Social Work and a bachelors in Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University. I received my master life coaching certification from the Certified Life Coaching Institute and am currently working towards my International Coaching Federation (ICF) credentialing.

Work Experience:

Prior to becoming a life coach, my work revolved around research and psychotherapy. My first “real job” after college was as a researcher at the University of Pittsburgh - Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. After completing my masters and moving to New England, I worked as a crisis intervention clinician specializing in work with the chronically mentally ill and managed a crisis stabilization unit at a community mental health clinic. Concurrently, I also worked for an employee assistance program working with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as well as a large retail company.  Finally, I joined a group practice as a clinical social worker with a focus on doing individual and group therapy with women, children and families.

Personal:

I am cisgender and female identified (she/her).  I have been married to a man for almost 20 years and have six children (four with me and two in heaven) plus two cats. I am an immigrant from the Philippines living the “American Dream.” I am a woman of faith with a passion for social and economic justice.  I am a writer and have been published in several anthologies. I am a 5K runner who has completed three marathons. I have lived on both coasts, in urban, suburban and rural areas. I prefer Dunkin Donuts to Starbucks. My favorite color is blue.
